Housing Supply

Published on: 13 July 2017

Today I challenged the Minister on current housing supply.

In Hackney more people rent privately than own their own homes—not because they do not want to own their own homes, but because they have no option. However, given rent levels in the private rented sector, it is amazing that they can afford to do so.

Hidden homelessness is growing massively in Hackney too: in many households, one family live in the bedroom while another whole family live in the living room. And the use of hostels and bed and breakfast’s is getting out of control.

I put all these points and more to the Minister. You can read my speech here. Or watch it below.
