A welcome reprieve for overseas students

24 September 2012 at 00:00:00

Meg welcomed the news that constituents studying at London Metropolitan University have won a reprieve so they can continue their studies.

The UK Border Agency suspended the university’s status as a University sponsor for overseas students without notice in late August.

Meg said

"I am pleased that overseas students currently in the middle of their studies have been offered a temporary reprieve and can stay in the UK and continue with the courses.

“This has been a badly mismanaged and ill-thought out process. Clearly no thought was given by the Government to the impact of its actions on the thousands of legitimate overseas students who contribute so much to our universities.

“As other countries are welcoming English speaking students the British Government sent a signal internationally that foreign students were not welcome.”
