Acid Attacks

30 August 2017 at 00:00:00

I am extremely concerned about the recent spate of acid attacks in Hackney and the callousness of such actions.

I met the Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick a couple of weeks ago with other London MPs and we raised concerns about acid attacks. My colleague Stephen Timms MP raised the issue in a short (half hour) debate on Monday 17 July and you can read the debate transcript here.

I also met with the Hackney Borough Police Commander to discuss matters. All Hackney Police vehicles now carry hazardous chemical exposure kits to assist with acid attacks.

I am in favour of stronger sentences for such attacks in principle but do believe we need to seriously consider all options and also focus on prevention.

See below a response I have received from the Home Office on this matter.
