Hackney's Mecca Bingo to close

I am shocked to hear of the sudden closure of the Mecca Bingo Hall on Hackney Road, which has served the local community for more than fifty years. Local residents have contacted me, very upset at what is happening.

I will be pressing the owners to find out why they have taken this action and to make sure they take care of the local residents who have faithfully supported the club for so many years. It’s a friendly social meeting place for people, particularly older people.

I would be expecting the company to at the very least provide a regular bus service for these faithful patrons to go to the nearest club which I understand could be in Camden or even Wood Green.

The club has been part of the community since 1961 and is a great place for residents to meet up with friends new and old. I visited recently and had the pleasure of calling the numbers to celebrate one regular’s 70th anniversary of playing the game.
