Sunday Trading Laws

10 March 2016 at 00:00:00

The government suffered a serious defeat in the Commons where it proposed to devolve Sunday trading regulations to local authorities, which would have led to an extension of Sunday opening hours.

I voted against these changes, supporting businesses, workers, trade unions and faith groups, which have long been campaigning against this proposal.

Last month I met with local independent retailers and discussed various concerns and issues such as retail crime and the proposed extensions to Sunday trading hours.
