Tinted car windows and gang colours

10 September 2012 at 00:00:00

Meg recently hosted a meeting between Commander Matt Horne, the new Hackney Borough Commander and local parents.

Two issues raised by parents were the intimidatory effect of cars with blacked out windows, and clothes advertising gang names and gang weapons.

By law, tinted car windows need to let 70 to 75 percent of light through. Traffic police have equipment to test whether a car window is over-tinted local people can report cars and their registration numbers of any car they believe exceeds the maximum tinting to the local police.

Meg is also interested in gathering information about any clothing which advertises gangs and gang weaponry sold or promoted locally. If you have any examples please email Meg Hillier at meghilliermp@parliament.uk or via the contact page on this website
