World AIDS Day

Over the past thirty years, there has been significant progress in tackling AIDS globally.

But despite the progress that is being made 1.2 million people die each year as a result of the AIDS virus. Global infection rates are also alarmingly high: at the end of 2015, 37 million people – including over 2 million children – were living with HIV.

Significant levels of stigma still exist when it comes to HIV and AIDS. It remains an unacceptable blight on the lives of people living with HIV, negatively affecting their lives, and preventing those at risk for testing and accessing treatment.

World AIDS Day is significant because it reminds us all that HIV has not gone away. It reminds us that there is still a vital need to raise awareness, fight prejudice and improve education.
