Alzheimers Café Coffee Club

The Hackney and City branch of the Alzheimer’s Society organise a regular coffee club for people living with dementia and their families or carers.

The club, which started a year ago, is held on the first Friday of every month at the Salvation Army Centre, Lower Clapton Road.

It's the only local facility where Alzheimer's sufferers and their families can meet with other families in the same situation.
Entertainment provided includes old time music and singing and a quiz.

I had the pleasure of attending the coffee club in April. I spoke to a number of carers about the challenges of dementia care and facilities in Hackney as well as direct payments as they apply to dementia sufferers.
