Meg met with James Brokenshire MP, Minister for Crime and Security this week. Meg called for this urgent meeting in order to share with him your views and concerns.
"Over the past few days I have met and talked to tenants, residents, shopkeepers and shop workers who have been caught up in the violence on Monday night. I have heard that you are worried about the proposed cuts in police numbers. I raised this issue directly with the Minister. People are worried about the cuts in community policing in Hackney, police who speak to residents and know the area. The Government is not budging on this issue"
"I also asked about compensation to businesses which have had property looted and damaged, particularly for those who are not fully insured for such extraordinary criminal damage. The Government compensation scheme will cover all criminal damage. The under-insured and uninsured will also be covered under the scheme. This needs to be sorted out quickly. No-one is able to claim yet as the scheme is not yet in place. Shopkeepers and householders need to be able to get back to normal life as soon as possible
