Get Britain Cycling

09/10/14

Whilst at this year's Labour Party Conference I attended numerous cycling events.

As Vice-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Cycling, I was delighted that Chris Boardman and Shadow Transport Secretary Mary Creagh MP pledged their support for the APPG's 'Get Britain Cycling' report.

The event, organised by British Cycling, Sustrans, the London Cycling Campaign, CTC and the Bicycle Association, reinvigorated the consensus about what needs to be done to get Britain cycling.

Later the same day, I re-joined Chris Boardman and spoke at Labour Cyclists fringe event, and afterwards addressed over 300 cyclists.

The benefits cycling can bring to individuals and to communities are enormous. We need proper planning and sustained funding so that cycling is better supported.

On 16 October there will be a full debate in Parliament calling on the Government to support the APPG report, which you can read here.
