Meg Hillier has called on the Government to revise the way money is provided for adult education in Hackney.
Meg Hillier, Labour MP for Hackney South and Shoreditch raised the issue of further education in Hackney during Parliamentary Questions. And on Tuesday she met the Secretary of State for Education and Skills, Ruth Kelly, and other education ministers to discuss education issues in Hackney.
Meg said: “Hackney has many hard-working families with adults who access skills training to boost their family’s economy and the wider economy, yet the funding mechanism, particularly in east London, does not favour that.”
Meg Hillier is taking up the issues following the threat of cuts in the Community College. She recently met with the principal Chrissie Farley to discuss the issue. Meg also plans to work with other East London MPs to raise the issue of adult education funding in East London with the Government.
The Secretary of State for Education and Skills Ruth Kelly said she was looking forward to working with Meg on education agenda in Hackney over the next months.
