Meg is urging Hackney residents to shape up for 2012 and give their health a boost.
Over 51 per cent of adults in Hackney do no sport or physical activity. In a recent MORI survey Hackney is ranked 16th out of the 33 London boroughs for sporting activity.
Meg said, ‘Cancer and heart disease are the two biggest killers in Hackney. We can’t all be Olympic athletes but 30 minutes moderate activity can make a huge difference to your life chances.’
In the run up to the 2012 Olympics, Sport England is charged with increasing participation in sport by 1 per cent every year.
Meg said, ‘In Hackney there is no excuse not to get moving with London’s only Olympic sized outdoor heated swimming pool at London Fields and the lovely parks to walk in.’
