Have your say on future legislation

14/05/08

The next legislative programme (the bills to be debated in parliament before becoming law) has been published in advance so everyone can have their say.

Meg said, “The Prime Minister has set out his priorities for the future and is asking people in Britain to respond.

He has set out a series of proposals to help build a more prosperous and fairer Britain. Before they become law, everyone will have the chance to tell the PM what they think of the plans.

Below are some of the things the Government is planning to do:

• More help for first-time buyers struggling to get a foot on the housing ladder;

• More help for families to ease the pressures of work and family life with a proposal for a new right to request flexible working to cover all those with children up to the age of 16;

• Cutting red tape to free up police time;

• Reform of welfare and incapacity benefit;

• A fairer test for citizenship, following the introduction of an Australian-style points based system for immigration;

• Raise standards in schools and hospitals by placing more power in the hands of parents and patients.

I want to know what you think about the proposals. If you would like to comment on the programme get in touch by phone or e-mail.”
