I visited Homerton hospital for the launch of the 'Homerton Helpers' volunteer programme in September.
The programme aims to uses the skills and experience of local people to improve patients' experience of hospital. Voluntary positions rage from being a 'birth buddy' to welcoming visitors or helping on the wards.
Volunteers can make a huge difference to a patient's experience of hospital.
It was a great opportunity to meet the people giving their time to help out.
The scheme is open to local people aged 18 and over. You must be available to come into the hospital for a minimum of 3 hours per week for at least 6 months. All volunteers receive introductory training before they start.
