It’s time for Tour de Hackney, says Meg

Hackney MP, Meg Hillier has called for cycling’s top event to come to Hackney.

Meg said, ‘I have written to the Secretary of State and London’s Mayor asking that part of the route goes through Hackney. With the highest percentage of people cycling to work of any London borough, it’s London’s home of cycling. It would be appropriate for this national event to visit it.’

Meg has also signed an Early Day Motion welcoming confirmation that the 2007 Tour de France will start in London.

This will be only the third time in 100 years of the Tour’s history that it has visited England. It is also the first time that the Tour has ventured into the Capital
