Labour’s Hoxton by-election candidate Jonathan McShane has already started to make a big difference to the area.
The newest member of Labour’s Hoxton Team alerted the other Team members, councillors Simon Pearce and Carole Williams, to a number of key areas where more litter bins would make a difference.
More bins are now going to be placed in Hoxton – the Team have successfully secured eight new litter bins already with the promise of more on the way.
Jonathan said: ‘As we were visiting people’s homes, I noticed that Hoxton Square needed more bins as they quickly get filled up each day. There was also a need for more bins near the MacDonalds on Wenlock Road.
‘Simon had already suggested we needed more bins on Old St, especially near the tube exit – he and Carole added my suggestions to theirs and the Council is now installing them.
‘It shows what can be done by active local councillors and I am determined to keep the pressure up to keep Hoxton cleaner. Let me know of any areas where new bins are needed and I will raise this with the Council. You can call me on the hotline 07985 671 359.’
Jonathan also welcomed the Council’s plans in response to pressure from Hoxton’s Labour Team for new public toilets on Hoxton Street. This will help the market traders and shoppers, as well as the potential French-style pissoirs to tackle the anti-social problem of late night street urination, he said.
‘With new litter bins, toilets and street lights, Hoxton really is becoming cleaner and safer under Labour.’
