Meg Hillier is supporting a Bill to regulate the sale and display of sexually explicit material.
The Bill presented by Claire Curtis-Thomas MP calls for appropriate regulation of sexually explicit material such as ‘lads mags’ and The Daily and Sunday Sport, which are current available to children despite their graphic content.
Meg said, ‘Material that is so graphic and repulsive that it cannot be quoted in the House of Commons is available freely to minors in any high street newsagents. I am shocked by the content of magazines which, though aimed at men in their twenties, are regularly purchased by teenagers and children.’
The Bill proposes the establishment of a new, independent, non-partisan regulator for the sale and display of sexually explicit material, with binding codes and transparent, well publicised guidelines.
