Hackney’s needs must be top of the list after the International Olympic Committee vote on the 2012 Olympics on 6 July. Meg Hillier met Olympic gold medallist Jonathan Edwards last week to show her support for the London bid. She is also meeting Olympic chiefs in July to raise Hackney issues.

Meg Hillier, the Labour MP for Hackney South and Shoreditch, will be meeting Olympic chiefs in July after the winner of the Olympic bid has been announced. Meg strongly supports the London’s bid and wants to raise and discuss issues about regeneration in Hackney.

Meg said: “I am looking forward to a successful result as it means hundreds of jobs, homes and better transport for Hackney. But Hackney needs investment irrespective of the success or failure of London’s Olympic bid. I am determined that Hackney’s needs will be uppermost in the minds of the Government after July 6.”

Meg also met Jonathan Edwards, Olympic gold medallist from the Sydney 2000 Games just days before he flies to Singapore as part of the London 2012 delegation, hoping to bring the Olympic Games back to Britain for the first time in 64 years.

Meg said: “Hosting the Olympics is a great honour and I wish good luck to Jonathan and the whole British delegation”.
