Meg calls for review of police processes following Sam Hallam's successful appeal

The expected quashing of Sam Hallam’s conviction is great news for him, his family and supporters.

But it raises serious concerns about police processes. These need to be investigated thoroughly and I will be pressing Government and the Metropolitan Police to conduct a full investigation.

There’s also a wider concern with this and other cases about the willingness of witnesses, particularly young people, to come forward with evidence. Young people need to trust the police and believe that giving evidence is worthwhile. Where there is a breakdown of trust this does not serve the interests of justice.
