Meg Hillier today spoke about party unity at the Co-op party conference in Sheffield.

“When I stood for election it was as a Labour MP. I did not stand as an Independent and would not have been elected as an Independent. On Friday night I attended a stellar event organised by my Hackney North colleague Diane Abbott at which the achievements of the best and brightest black pupils and their teachers and colleges were celebrated and rewarded. At that event not a single person asked me about the leadership of the party. Their focus was on their children and ambitions for future achievement. It’s time we remembered who we’re here to serve and got on with the business of government.”
