Meg Hillier today welcomed the news that Transport for London will be taking control of the North London Railways including the North London Line.

The transfer of responsibility will be effective from autumn 2007 bringing with it major improvements. Immediate benefits will include additional station staff and extra train services, running earlier in the morning and later in the evening. Over five years TfL plans to deliver New, higher capacity, accessible trains and a £25m station enhancement programme to bring North London Railway stations up to TfL standards.

Meg said, ‘This will make a real difference to Hackney residents. I have written to the Transport Commissioner Peter Hendy urging him to press ahead with negotiations to get Oyster fully instated on the North London Line. I’d now like to see the North London Line added to the London tube map – it’s time Hackney’s transport links were seen as part of the London network’.

Meg is launching a petition to get the North London Line on the tube map.
