Meg today welcomed the announcement from Housing Minister Yvette Cooper and Mayor of London Ken Livingstone that Hackney is to receive extra funding for social housing.
Hackney is one of six winning bids in the settle homes initiative – a £30 million programme to help families make the move from temporary accommodation into long-term settled homes.
Schemes in Hackney will be able to purchase homes to be converted into quality social housing. The initiative will help move families out of expensive private sector accommodation and into stable homes which will be converted into social rent housing in the long term.
Meg said, ‘In Hackney we have a severe need for more family housing. This initiative is helping families to more settled homes. It’s a welcome step in tackling this challenge.’
