Nigerian Independence Day

On Nigerian Independence Day it’s worth reflecting on the events of the last year in Nigeria.

The Presidential election was the best ever since independence. There’s more to do to improve the electoral process but it’s on the right trajectory. I’m still keen for the Nigerian diaspora in the UK to be given the opportunity to vote.

The rise of terrorism is putting Nigeria in the news for the wrong reasons. It’s important that President Goodluck Jonathon works to tackle this. He also needs to demonstrate that he is President for all of Nigeria so that disaffection does not fester in parts of the north.
