Meg Hillier welcomed the 2012 Olympics which will bring huge benefits to Hackney.

Meg Hillier, the Labour MP for Hackney South and Shoreditch, congratulated the bid team in Parliament on Wednesday.

Meg said: “I welcome the facilities that will be built at Hackney Wick and particularly major transport improvements that Hackney has waited a very long time for.”

The success means that as well as the completion of the East London Line extensions thorough Haggerston and Dalston, there will be a turn up and go service on the north London line.

“But this is just the start of what Hackney needs,” said Meg. “We need to ensure that future employment opportunities and training are made available to local people to maximize the benefits to Hackney.”

Meg will be meeting Olympic chiefs to discuss the regeneration plans for Hackney later this month.

Meg said: “The successful result means hundreds of jobs, homes and better transport for Hackney. Now I’m determined to ensure that Hackney’s needs will be top of the list. We all need to work hard to ensure that Hackney gets as much as possible out of the Olympics both before and after 2012.”
