Semah Dancing

I was privileged to watch a performance of semah dancing in February when young people from Alevi Cultural Centre and Cemevi came to meet me at Parliament.
The young people performed two traditional dances from the 700 year old Turkish ritual to live music and singing. It was the first time such dancing had been performed in Parliament. The dancers also tried to teach me a few of the moves!
The classes are run for young people between the ages of 6 and 20 at Alevi Cultural Centre, 89 Ridley Road, E8.
Classes are on Tuesdays and Saturdays (different times for different ages).
For more information contact Yashar Ismailoglu at Alevi on 020 7241 6285.
