St Peter's Church in De Beauvoir has been the local parish church since 1841, built by W C Lockner, a local architect.
I visited the church to see the work being done to refurbish the large crypt. Thanks to local fundraising efforts and a Lottery bid money has been raised to provide a range of community facilities and small office space.
St. Peter's has transformed the crypt into a community asset, intending it to be a thriving centre for social interaction, creativity, cultural expression and community support.
The crypt provides a wide range of services. It currently houses a cold-weather night shelter for 15 homeless people on Monday nights (in partnership with six other local churches who provide shelter on the other nights.)
The crypt is also home to a local community cafe, a newly refurbished hall and smaller meeting and counselling rooms which can be booked.
The church is open to ideas about other community use of the crypt.
For further information and to get the booking form to book the facilities you can go to St Peter’s De Beauvoir .
