Statement on the London bombings

Meg Hillier MP praised Hackney’s bus workers and police for working to ensure that Hackney’s buses and train stations were safe after Thursday’s bomb attacks.

Police were despatched to check buses in Hackney depots for bombs.

“Particularly shocking in Hackney is that one of our local buses was attacked in this way. I have travelled on buses since with my children and will continue to do so”.

“What a week of contrasting emotions – first the jubilation over the Olympics and then a bomb at Aldgate and on a Hackney bus. My thoughts are with those who have been bereaved and injured”.

“We must remember, though, that London is no less safe than any other major city. We all need to be vigilant and careful.”
