In March Meg Hillier Member of Parliament for Hackney South and Shoreditch held a special coffee morning on Kingsmead Estate for local people looking for work. Various agencies recruiting for jobs available over the Olympics attended including G4S.
From this special job coffee morning 28 people have now got jobs during the Olympics. This is nearly half of the people who applied.
Meg said:
"The number of people who got jobs following just one two hour coffee morning shows how much Hackney people want work. It also shows what can be achieved if you take the opportunities to the job seekers in their own communities. It is vital to reach out to people and not just rely on advertising.
I will continue to monitor the number of Hackney people get Olympic jobs"
