Thank you for re-electing me as MP for Hackney South and Shoreditch. Clearly people in Hackney voted overwhelmingly for a Labour Government. Sadly, it was a difficult night for Labour nationally. However, it has been a privilege to serve as your MP for 10 years and I will go on doing so to the best of my ability.

In the last five years I have seen the people of Hackney South and Shoreditch hit hard by the Lib Dem/Tory Government. The impact of welfare cuts, the bedroom tax, of redefining what is affordable housing causing rising rents, of cuts to social care, of 15 hour jobs and zero hours contracts – have all hit Hackney hard.

I will continue to fight for Hackney. It will be harder with a Government that is removing the ladder of opportunity for those on low wages but I will, with your help, continue to stand up for Hackney.
