Yesterday Meg called on the Government to do more to help struggling businesses. She said the Queen's Speech ' does little to tackle economic problems and I am particularly concerned for the businesses in my constituency and unemployment'
Meg raised the value of Hackney's many new start-up businesses and the problems they face. "We have some very innovative business models in a very innovative part of London, but businesses in Hackney are struggling to get loans and even, in many cases, an overdraft facility from their bank. It is not so much the level of a loan that is an issue but the fact that banks will not loan in the first place"
On unemployment Meg raised the high levels of unemployment in Hackney and the consequences to the standard of living. 'Our overall unemployment rate is 12.7%. and this has an effect on child poverty. There are still children in my constituency who trun up to school after a long summer holiday malnourished in September.'
