In a speech to MPs about social mobility, Meg told them that “Hackney may have its poverty, but there is no poverty of ambition”. Meg recently became vice-chair of the all-party parliamentary group on social mobility. Ensuring that Hackney young people are able to fulfill their ambitions and have equal opportunities to get jobs in the professions including in medicine, law, and business is one of Meg’s main priorities

In her speech Meg particularly highlighted banking where some 90% of jobs “go to people who have already had some work experience, but those placements usually go to the children of partners or clients. That cuts out pretty much everybody in a Hackney school, yet we are on the edge of the City”
