Meg recently visited new ceramics studio Turning Earth for the presentation of a cheque from Crowdfunding.

Turning Earth seeks to provide space and creative education to Hackney's potters. Local social entrepreneur Tallie Maughan has a vision for a US model of creative studio space which allows semi professional ceramicists, serious hobbyists and amateurs to share a top quality work space in a former glass factory in Haggerston.

Tallie used crowdfunding to pre sell wheel time and classes for beginners and raised over £13,000 from local enthusiasts as well as persuading more mainstream funders that her idea supported by future users. Plans are to open in November 2013.
.
Her technical director is leading ceramicist Stuart Carey who is currently designing ranges for the Conran shop and Calvin Klein homeware. He has also produced a Turning Earth mug and commissioned a special Hackney willow pattern design which joins the original I Love Hackney mug (from Victoria Park potter Caroline Bousfield Gregory) as a Hackney classic.
