Hackney is home to a wide range of brilliant hospitality venues, including many great pubs. I recently visited the George & Vulture pub in Hoxton to discuss how it has been affected by the cost of living crisis and other inflationary pressures. The removal of the Energy Bill Relief Scheme in March, and its replacement with a less generous scheme, will mean that many pubs will be massively squeezed.

I am very concerned about their future – the increase in energy bills is eye-watering. When coupled with business rates and rent increases, some pubs face an unsustainable future. Some have told me they would need to charge £15 a pint in order to stay afloat - clearly not a realistic option. 

See me challenge the Government on this. I’ll keep pressing the Government to step up and do more to help save our pubs.
